Kentucky Priest Pays Electric Bills for 200 Out-of-Work Coal Miners

Lexington, KY priest, Father Jim Sichko, a man known for using his pulpit to perform good deads, has paid the electric bills for around 200 coal miners who were left without jobs from the recent bankruptcy of Black Jewel Mines in Eastern Kentucky.

“There’s nothing worse than preaching the word of God in a pulpit and not doing anything,”

Father Jim Sichko

The $20,000+ used to pay the electric bills came out of Father Sichko’s personal account.

The bankruptcy of Black Jewel was very sudden and hundreds of miners were not paid for work they performed for the company. In addition many of the miners had 401K contributions taken out of their paycheck, but the money was never deposited into their accounts. A GoFundMe has been set up to help these miner’s families during this time.
