Dr. Carey Andrew-Jaja has delivered 8,000 babies during his 40 year career. He was given the nickname, “The Singing Doctor” because he sang to all 8,000 of those babies when they were born. His favorite songs to sing the babies were “Happy Birthday” and “What a Wonderful World.”

“To me, it’s a wonderful thing in my hand, the miracle of life,” Dr. Andrew-Jaja said. “And the rest of is that it’s a beautiful world we live in. We forget about all the crisis going on everywhere for a moment when you see that miracle of life in front of you.”

The doctor said he started singing to babies as a resident when a retiring OB/GYN who liked to sing to babies told him to take up the mantle as the singing doctor.

“Each of them is an individual. You know, I’ve delivered thousands and thousands of babies,” Dr. Andrew-Jaja said. “When I’m singing to those babies, I think I’m singing to a future important person. That’s the credit I give to all of them.”
